a. Glyptodont/Doedicurus
A glyptodont [GLIP-tuh-dohnt] was, quite frankly, an over-sized armadillo. It was the size of the car and was the most heavily armored mammal ever. The glyptodont lived during the Pleistocene epoch and went extinct at the end of the most recent ice age. See Glyptodontidae on Wikipedia for more information.
Doedicurus [dee-dih-KYUR-is] was a type of glyptodont. It is thought to be the largest variety, with a cannon-ball-sized, spiked, club-like ball of bone at the end of its tail supposedly used for whacking other Doedicurus and anyone else who comes too close. See Doedicurus on Wikipedia for more information.
And no, the animal in the header banner's NOT a glyptodont. It's called an ARMADILLO.
If you still want more information, search for glyptodont, Glyptodontidae, &/or Doedicurus on the web or at your local bookstore/library.
b. Aftermath
Aftermath is an intermediate-advanced unique South American Pleistocene epoch role-playing game. We role-play Doedicurus, a type of glyptodont , in particular.
Aftermath's staff is forming slowly, beginning with armadillo! quiche, Aftermath's administrator. Rules are strictly enforced, but we try to be flexible with our members. We do not strive to be the most perfect website ever; we simply strive to let you have an enjoyable time if you sign up.
This site's name, Aftermath, comes from the fact that the glyptodont took part in the aftermath of the dinosaurs.
c. Plot
After the mass extinction marking the end of the Cretaceous period--and the dinosaurs--mammals and birds start to take over the world. Size becomes an aspect of the mammals, not only the birds, who are the descendants of the extinct reptiles who ruled the earth for millions of years.
South America has been isolated from most of the rest of the world. Due to this isolation, strange creatures have evolved here: Macrauchenia, an odd-looking grazer; Doedicurus, a car-sized armadillo; Megatherium, a bear-like sloth; Phorusrhacos, a meat-eating bird; and many others. Some Smilodon, a saber-toothed cat, often incorrectly called the "saber-toothed tiger", have migrated from North America to live here, as have several other animals.
For Doedicurus, life isn't too bad. Their armor protects them from Phorusrhacos and Smilodon, as does their club-like tail-tip. But the world is changing, no matter how slowly, and it seems to be changing for the worse. Now it's time for the Doedicurus to face the facts. The world is growing colder, making it hard for them to flourish due to their herbivorous ways, and new, impressive mammals are evolving, some that may even be able to stand up to the huge armadillos.
And there's nothing they can do about it.
